Learn more about the women and men who need donor eggs
There are many reasons why women and men come to our Southern California egg donation agency in need of donor eggs. For many, using donor eggs is one of the most effective ways to move forward on the path to parenthood.
Who needs donor eggs?
There are a variety of factors that would make donor eggs the ideal option for those hoping to build their family.
Women of advanced maternal age. Did you know that a woman’s egg quality and quantity begin to decline in her 30s, and significantly drops after age 37? And when she reaches the age of 40, she has less than a 5% chance of conceiving each cycle. Because of this, fertility doctors often recommend donor eggs for women of advanced maternal age who are having trouble conceiving.
Premature ovarian failure. Women who lose normal ovarian function before the age of 40 have experienced premature ovarian failure. A woman with this condition is often a good candidate for donor eggs, as premature ovarian failure typically means that she doesn't produce normal levels of estrogen, and does not regularly release an egg.
Diminished ovarian reserve. If a woman’s ovaries lose their reproductive potential because of age, genetic abnormalities, certain medical treatments, or injury she might need to use donor eggs.
Poor response to ovulation medications. Women who take ovulation medications like Clomid, and do not have egg follicles that develop as a result of the medication, often need to consider becoming a parent through egg donation.
Repeat miscarriages or failed IVF, in vitro fertilization, cycles. Fertility doctors sometimes recommend donor eggs if a hopeful mother experiences two or more miscarriages, or repeat failed IVF cycles, as the woman could have issues with the quality or quantity of her eggs.
Absence of ovaries from birth. Some women are born without ovaries, meaning that they will require donor eggs to conceive.
Male couples and single men. All same-sex male couples and single men working with a fertility clinic to build their family will require donor eggs.
